The meeting was preceded by a workshop on the duties and responsibilities of board members led by TAL’s legal counsel Tom Achtymichuk of McCuaig Desrochers LLP. Netspeed 2008: Call for Proposals by January 25th

It's that time of year again! The Alberta Library (TAL) invites proposals for sessions at Netspeed 2008, to be held October 22-24, 2008, in Edmonton, AB.

Please note that session proposals must be received by January 25, 2008.

Netspeed is a conference organized by TAL for librarians and technical staff from all library sectors. This conference serves to highlight new technologies of interest to libraries today. Sessions cover a variety of topics including emerging trends, newly implemented technology, and the impact these have on the library and the community.

Online Reference Centre update

The past year was a busy one for the Online Reference Centre (ORC). In May of 2007, a User Survey was distributed to teachers, teacher-librarians and school library staff. It provided excellent feedback on existing content, recommendation for future content, accessibility issues, value of the listserv as a communication tool, in-service content and future direction for promotional campaigns.

Two new technology committees in '08

Two new technology related committees will be formed in the New Year to assist the Alberta Public Library Electronic Network in developing services to optimize public libraries’ use of SuperNet. Both will operate according to APLEN’S program directives. Christina Wilson, Emerging Technologies Librarian, will convene the meetings early in the New Year.

Emerging technologies: what's on your Christmas wish list?

The latter half of 2007 has seen the release of some innovative products that would appeal to any early adopters of emerging technologies on your Christmas list. Furthermore, improvements to some cool technologies from Christmases past make them worth revisiting in light of their application to public libraries.
