Introducing TZiN Wine & Tapas

The long wait is over, Edmonton's newest Wine & Tapas bar opened for business on Wednesday, March 7, 2007 at 5pm.

Expect funky decor, Riedel stemware, wines by the glass and by the bottle, a creative yet fun menu, exotic olives, freshly baked bread, jazzy music, fresh espresso and coffee art - well you get the picture.

To err is human, to TZiN deVine.......

Just as one attends the gallery or film for visual enjoyment, the concert hall for auditory bliss, and for the hedonistic pleasure of touch..... the spa ....... we believe that it is essential to satiate the desires of the other senses, smell and taste. With art on the walls, music in the background, and a deVine menu, at our new venue you may TZiN freely in the name of the sensual pleasures of the palate.

TZiN, like deVine, came to be because of our love of sharing the pleasure of great wine, good food, and lively conversation with our friends and colleagues. Our customers at deVine often comment on the friendly and comfortable atmosphere maintained by our 'family' of staff. In creating TZiN, we have striven to maintain that warm and cheerful ambiance, which we feel ought to go hand in hand with a good glass of wine. In the world of fine wine and dining, there are always new pleasures to be found and we hope that with our diverse selection of wine and tapas no two experiences at TZiN will ever be the same.

Education is the Key....

One of our fundamental policies is NO WINE SNOBBERY allowed. Whether you're just a beginner or posess a cellar full old Bordeaux, there's always more to learn and new vino to try in the ever-evolving world of wine. Both the prices and the atmosphere of TZiN reflect our attitude that wine is something to be savoured and shared, as well as discussed and debated. In the end, it all comes down to finding out what you enjoy. So commit a TZiN or two, and relax.

We will be offering the standard option of wines by glass or by the bottle. However, we will also give our customers the option of purchasing wines by the ounce. Wines offering of 1oz, 2 oz, or full 4 oz glasses will allow you to create your own tasting flight and allow you the opportunity to try several wines without going beyond your budget.

A Hint of Delights to Come.....

For those of you who we’ve had the pleasure of hosting at our deVine tastings, you’ve sampled the culinary expertise and creativity of our staff. We understand that food and wine are truly a match made in heaven, and the proper pairing can create a truly deVine experience.

We want to go beyond traditional pairings and our menu offers some unique fare for the adventurous taster. Spaghetti bolognese and chianti, rack of lamb and Bordeaux…..a tad conventional n’est pas? We know from past tastings that sushi goes fantastically with champagne, rose can stand up to battered fish and chips, and lemongrass shrimp is a wonderful accompaniment to a cool glass of chablis. But what wines would you pair with corn-meal battered frog legs? Or pickerel sandwich….or molten cheese...or musk ox?!

We have a few suggestions, but we encourage you to be adventurous, and try a flight of wines with a dish. Expand your palate and choose your own dining adventure!

Our Opening Flight Theme - The California Wine Rush

In support of one of Edmonton's finest annual wine events, TZiN is supporting California wines within our current flight selection. On March 7th wine enthusiasts attended the Shaw Conference Center for the 2007 California Wine Fair - which was a fundraiser for the Citadel.

At TZiN, we invite you to continue to explore California through your glass.

You will receive a 2 ounce sample of each wine within the flight. You may choose to compare the qualities, notice the intricacies of each region - or…(my personal favorite) just enjoy!

Who Are We?
Kelsey Danyluk

Our Managing Partner Kelsey Danyluk has worked tirelessly for 6 months to get this venture up and running. A former wine agent, and long-time wine aficionado, Kelsey has decided to emerge from behind the scenes to the frontlines of the business. You're likely to witness her multitasking around TZiN; pouring wine, serving tables, making specialty coffees; keeping the books; dancing on the tables.....A lover of shiny things and all that is cat-like, Kelsey possesses a warm and friendly personality, and she is sure to make you smile.

Angela Schoonderbeek

Chef Angela Schoonderbeek was born and raised in Edmonton, Angela comes from a very artistic family… so to her amazement she found out at a young age that she couldn’t paint, draw or do sculptures …but she could cook. Watching her family gather on a regular basis for large family events she believes strongly that nothing brings people together better than food and drink. Once realizing this, she decided that she wanted to do nothing more thank cook and bake. She became a NAIT graduate for culinary arts and went on to do her first year in Business. Also hoping one day to complete a nutritional sciences degree she is very conscience of special dietary needs that some may have, and is usually able to help those find great dietary supplements (and if she doesn’t have an answer she will find out for you!)

She is extremely random and energetic, you might see her dancing and singing in the kitchen (as music is her other passion). Very much a people person don’t be shy to ask her any questions about what she is doing when puttering around in the kitchen. When not at work, Angela is usually out with friends or family, making time for them whenever possible.

deVine Intervention

Rest assured that the other TZiN partners Ed Fong, Annabelle Evaristo, Chad Gascho and Dirk Chan will be around frequently to lend a hand with wine pairing suggestions. Our final partner Leslie Markin will be around infrequently for she resides in Vancouver, but she sends her love in the form of Athena's Offering, those specially infused olives that's on our menu!
