TAL's 10th Anniversary Board Celebration

The Alberta Library (TAL) is planning a special 10th Anniversary celebration for board members.

Airdrie Public Library joins Marigold

The City of Airdrie joined the Marigold Library System as of February 12, 2007. With the addition of the Airdrie Public Library, Marigold Library System now includes 34 member libraries and covers a population of 149,525.

TAL Strategic Plan Update

A revised Vision, Mission and Values, along with proposed Goals and Strategies were presented to the TAL Board at its November Board meeting. The Planning Team is working to provide a draft Strategic Plan at the spring board meeting.

Social software for libraries – fantasy or reality?

Patrons of public libraries are increasingly turning to the web, not just as a gateway to information and services, but for engaging in interactive virtual communities. Leisure time is being spent rating, reviewing, discussing, and exploring online media. For many, it is the equivalent of what hanging out in a library, and browsing the shelves (and return carts) might once have been. But can this type of social software be applied to the library community?

TAL welcomes new staff

The Alberta Library (TAL) would like to welcome the following new employees, who joined the IT staff in January:

Marilyn Francis, Client Services Analyst

Fletcher Nichol, Programmer Analyst

James Woodward, Applications Programmer

TAL would also like to welcome our new Training Librarian, Ivana Kozina, who started at TAL on March 1.

Piyapong Charoenwattana has resigned his position as TAL Online Programmer as of January 31, 2007. TAL wishes him the best in his new position.

Afton Williams has resigned her position as Administrative Assistant as of March 9, 2007. TAL wishes her the best in her new position.
