2010 London Boat Show

The RYA has announced an action-packed week of activity for the Tullet Prebon London International Boat Show 2010, from expert talks and prestigious award ceremonies to great member offers and competitions.

RYA Volvo Dinghy Show 2010

Tickets are available now for the RYA Volvo Dinghy Show 2010, in association with Yachts and Yachting and Suzuki held at Alexandra Palace, London over the weekend of 6 – 7 March; the only show in the world dedicated exclusively to dinghy sailing.

If you’re thinking about crossing the Channel, or venturing to the Channel Islands for the first time and want to do so with the support of the professionals then make a date to join the 2010 RYA Sail Cruise, sponsored by Hamble School of Yachting in association with World Cruising Club.

WPNSA hosts book signing with Ben Ainslie

The Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy (WPNSA) hosted a book signing with Ben Ainslie, CBE on Saturday, 12 December. Ben, a Director of the Academy and triple Olympic gold medallist, also presented the talented South West windsurfer, Izzy Hamilton (17) with the RYA SW Region Young Sailor of the Year award (see last month's e-news). Izzy recently won gold at the RS:X Youth Worlds in Turkey.

UK Border Control blow

The Home Affairs Select Committee has published the report of its investigation into the Government’s £1.2 billion e-Borders programme. The report concluded that "the e-Borders programme is therefore, as far as we can ascertain, likely to be illegal under the EU Treaty" and we understand that the European Commission has written to the Government in similar terms.

Exmouth's Matson selected for BKA

Eighteen-year-old Sam Matson of Exe Sailing Club has won a place at the British Keelboat Academy (BKA). The BKA is a new partnership between the RYA and the UK Sailing Academy (UKSA).
